Environmental Health and Clinical Epidemiology

Biography

Dr. Mohammad Fareed did his masters in Biotechnology from CSJM University, Kanpur, India. He has earned his Ph.D. jointly from CSIR- Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India and Integral University, Lucknow India. He has worked as a faculty in College of Medicine at Al Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has got 15 years of research experience. During his doctorate, he has carried out research on health risks, exposure assessment, oxidative stress and genetic polymorphism among the agricultural workers occupationally exposed to pesticides. Presently, he is working as a Professor in Center for Global Health Research at Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS). He has 60 publications in his credit which are published in many international peer reviewed journals. He has also published 1 book, 2 book chapters and 19 abstracts in proceedings of many national and international conferences among which he has presented 11 papers in various conferences. As a Principal Investigator, he has completed a research project entitled "Epidemiological study based on oxidative stress in relation with life style and dietary patterns among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in Saudi Arabia". This research was mainly based on investigating the role of oxidative stress associated with life style and dietary patterns among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients (T2DM). Additionally, he is an active collaborator of Global Burden of Disease, U.S.A. through which, he has got publications in some prestigious journals like Nature, Lancet and Nature Medicine. He has been listed among top 2% scientists globally in the list published by Standford University and Elsevier in the field of Epidemiology and Public Health for year 2023.His research background is biochemical and genetic toxicology in occupational and environmental health and his current research interest is investigating the role of oxidative stress, environmental factors, epigenetic (DNA methylation) and lifestyle factors in the pathogenesis of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and other non-infectious metabolic disorders. He is also interested in exploring the adverse health effects associated with environmental and occupational exposure of various nanoparticles in outdoor and indoor environments.
